Travel is My Love Language

Travel is my love language. This probably doesn’t come as surprise to anyone, I mean I run a travel blog. But it really is a true statement. My fondest memories growing up are from traveling around the country, and for as long as I can remeber travel has been a priority in my life. When you travel you are able to experience new cultures, meet new people, and see new sites. You learn something new everytime, and it pushes you outside your comfort zone and helps you grow as a person.

My first introduction to travel came in the form of the classic roadtrip. Family vacation for me growing up always included a road trip. Sometimes these roadtrips were short, like the ones to the beach, and sometimes they were long, like the 14 hour drives to see my dad’s family in New England, but regardless of the length these roadtrips hold some of my favorite memories as a kid. My parents also considered roadtrips the perfect educational opportunity. We always sought out the most interesting historical landmark along the route and would spend a few hours learning about the place and its impact on America. I think these roadtrip field trips are one of the many reasons I love American history so much.

Luckily, the “field trip” mentality my parents instilled in their children has lasted into my brother’s and my own trip planning. Do you know many college students who would spend their spring break in museums? Nope, me either. But that’s exactly what my brother and I did my senior year.

Fast forward to post-graduate life, and I’m still eager to visit new places and learn something new with each trip/adventure. Luckily, I have found someone as eager to explore as me. (Sidenote: This is a must-have trait for me in my partner.) Since The Tall Man and I started dating a little over a year ago, we have traveled to 12 different states. When we travel, it’s just as much about being with each other and enjoying each other’s company as it is experiencing something new.

I think traveling is so much more fun when you can do it with the ones you love, and it’s also way more memorable!

Around the Horn: Favorite Team

WELCOME TO BRAVES COUNTRY!

Atlanta Braves

That’s right. My favorite team is the Atlanta Braves! Chop chop!

I’m a loyal Braves baseball fan! Some seasons are obviously easier to watch than others (am I right?), but I won’t leave the good ol’ Braves!

My love of baseball, any baseball, is something that has grown over the years. I have not always loved baseball, but my love grew out of a deep respect for the sport. To top that off, I have not always been an Atlanta Braves fan. I grew up in a household that cheered for the Yankees. It still does, especially when they play the Red Sox. You see, my dad was raised on Yankee baseball and thus my brother and I were raised on Yankee baseball. I grew up with Derek Jeter on my TV instead of Chipper Jones.

Turner Field, however, is where I learned to fully appreciate the game of baseball. And as my knowledge of the game grew, so too did my love of Braves baseball. It was no longer a boring game, but a past time. Braves baseball was the thing that turned the burning embers of my baseball love into a blaze.

And with that, Happy 50th Birthday, Atlanta Braves! Check out this great video entitled “Season of ‘We'”. I heard it as a radio spot a couple of nights ago, and I just had to share as it is very apropos for this post! Chop chop!

So, now that we got our bases covered with my favorite baseball team, let’s talk World Series! When I saw Jessa and Kasey ask for World Series predictions I slightly balked. I’m terrible at making predictions. Terr.i.ble. But, I’ll take a swing at it. I’m going to go have to say San Francisco Giants. I mean they won in 2010, 2012, 2014…so why not 2015? (PS – I really wanted the Royals to take home the pennant last year.) But I also have this feeling that a random team is going to come out of left field and win it all. (Like all of my baseball puns? 😉 ) We’ll just have to wait and see how the 2015 season shakes out!

Who is your favorite team? What’s your prediction for the 2015 World Series?

Well, that’s a wrap! It’s been a fun couple of weeks linking up with Kasey and Jessa for Around the Horn! Let baseball season commence!
Check out my past linkups about my favorite baseball memory here and favorite ballpark foods here.

Around the Horn: Favorite Ballpark Food

I’m excited to be linking up today with Kasey and Jessa for Around the Horn!

Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd;
Just buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don’t care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don’t win, it’s a shame.
For it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out,
At the old ball game.

Today we are talking about the glorious, unhealthy for you, food you can get at a ballpark! After the players’ tight pants, I think the food is my favorite thing about baseball. You can get pizza, hot dogs, nachos, peanuts, Cracker Jack, burgers, BBQ, pretzels, and in Atlanta, Chic-fil-A! That’s just to name a few, and it’s so hard to pick a favorite!

SO, my all time favorite ballpark food is… nachos! I’m a sucker for anything with cheese on it! To me, nothing beats the classic ballpark nachos (hold the jalapenos) with a cold Bud Light! Sometimes, if it’s a late game, I’ll partner it with a hot dog, or have some peanuts as a 7th inning snack, and for dessert Cracker Jacks! Pretty much, in my opinion, you can’t go wrong with ballpark food (except for the prices…geez!).

What’s your favorite ballpark food?

Around the Horn: Favorite Baseball Memory

I’m excited to be linking up today with Kasey and Jessa for Around the Horn!

Baseball season is here! I just love the atmosphere, the fans, the game, the food, and the tight pants that come with baseball season! Baseball is one of the many things that helps hold me over until football season starts!

Your baseball pants are way too tight. Said no girl ever. / Sports Ecard / someecards.com

I have so many great memories at baseball games, whether it is singing the National Anthem with a choir at Turner Field, hanging out with friends, studying while at opening weekend in college, celebrating a birthday or holiday, or a first date. Baseball is linked to some of my favorite spring and summer memories.

One of my favorite baseball memories is way back in circa 1998 when my family went to a game at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium to see the Birmingham Barons play.

Birmingham Barons

It was like any typical baseball game. We showed up, grabbed our seats along the 1st base line, enjoyed some Cracker Jacks and got ready to show off our mad yo-yoing skills! You read that correctly. We yo-yoed at a baseball game, with the whole stadium, which landed us a spot in the Guinness World Records for Largest Simultaneous Yo-yo! That’s right, I went to a baseball game with my family and helped set a world record. Of course, that record has since been surpassed, but for a time we were there among the greats and weird that make up Guinness World Records!

What is your favorite baseball memory?
