Eat + Drink: The Holy Donut

There are a lot of reasons to visit Portland, Maine. My personal favorites being the lighthouses, lobster rolls, and the delicious donuts found at The Holy Donut.

The donuts found at The Holy Donut are made with the not-so-secret ingredient of fresh Maine potatoes. To be honest with you, I was not so sure how I would feel about donuts made from potatoes. But one bite into their Maple Bacon Donut and my mind was completely changed!

The Holy Donut opened its doors in March 2012 on Park Avenue and shortly thereafter, in October 2013, it opened a second location on Exchange Street. In March 2017, The Holy Donut moved outside of Portland to its largest location in Scarborough.

Every morning each location makes its donuts from scratch with real ingredients and offers its customers the choice of approximately 20 flavors on a rotating basis. My personal favorites are Maple Bacon, Fresh Lemon, and Apple (fall-only flavor). Each store closes daily when the last donut is sold, so its recommended you plan your visit before noon.
